Lions in Central Region outing

Red Lions are on the road to Lilongwe to face Blue Eagles in a Super League encounter tomorrow (Saturday) at Nankhaka Stadium. They will wind up their Central Region trip with a fixture against Epac FC on Sunday at Civo Stadium.

Six points separate the Zomba Lions from the Lilongwe-based Eagles; the onus will be on the visitors to win and finish in the top six and qualify for next year’s Standard Bank Knockout Trophy.

On the other hand, Eagles, who have missed out on the league title, will want to consolidate their place in the top six.

“I am confident of getting a result going by the way we played against Silver Strikers last week. Although we drew, the effort from the players was excellent. We hope we can repeat that and get three points. It is important that we finish in the top three,” said Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona whose side is third on the log table with 44 points, 12 adrift of leaders Big Bullets who have 56.

Mkasakuona’s Lions counterpart, Collins Nkuna, has called for fair officiation.

“That is our worry when we travel to Lilongwe. We can play, well but sometimes the results are influenced by referees,” said Nkuna.

Epac coach Audlow Makonyola said they are ready to frustrate the Lions.

“Of course, the results have not been good of late. The problem has been finishing, but we have been working on that and we are ready for them,” he said.

Epac are still in danger of relegation.

If Blantyre United can win all their three remaining games and Epac lose all theirs, they will be relegated.
